ARTISTS’ BOOKS CLEVEDON: ABC!
This group of artists who get together occasionally to share a book structure and we set ourselves a theme to make for our next meeting. We have only just got going so are finding our way and new members are very welcome to join our supportive group whose experience of book structures ranges from none to extensive, so no prior experience needed!
But what is an Artists’ Book I hear you cry! Well, defining artists’ books is a thankless task! (Bit like trying to define ‘what is art’). Basically they are artworks in book form and can be in small editions or one-of-a–kind. Some play with the Structure of a book- so the pages are not separate and do not open one at a time. Some work into them with sketches and paint. You can also get books that use different materials, not just ordinary paper, have cut- outs so some of the book is revealed or hidden, even pop-ups. Some transform existing books producing an altered book.
The next meeting is …10-1pm
Saturday 22nd March look at 'Patterns' themed books, finish cover for collage book. Start flag book. Set theme for next meeting 'Connections'.
Saturday 26th April, look at 'Connections' books. Finish flag book. Theme for next meeting 'Insects'.
Saturday 14th June, look at 'Insects' books. Japanese stab bindings
Venue: check with Carol. Bring your own refreshments. Beginners welcome and it’s free to all members.
Please email Carol Wood for more info and to let her know you’re attending: greenfingercarol@gmail.com
