Portrait Drawing with Ruby May-Hawkins

In this intermediate masterclass, Ruby will be focussing on the wider breadth of techniques used to draw portraits. With a choice of either charcoal or graphite, you will be working from printed references.

There will be detailed demonstrations of each skill to inspire you before you set off individually using your own photo reference of a loved-one/ friend to draw from. At the end of the session, you’ll leave with a beautiful picture and the new skills to apply to future graphite portraits.

The class will span the day, with the first half focussing on shape and proportion, and the latter half on shadow and shading. Ruby will show you some more refined techniques which you will be able to use for a range of different subject matter in your artwork beyond just this session. You will be looking in closer detail at the anatomy of the face and how to represent this artistically.

Ruby is a practicing portrait artist with 10 years of experience and a Foundation Diploma in Fine Art. She has taught a number of classes as well as working on a commission-basis.
