Susannah creates paintings inspired by the North Somerset coast using natural earth pigments she finds herself and turns into paint. She uses the colour that comes from rocks to describe the varied geology of our shoreline......

Her Earth Colours workshop will include: 

* A fascinating presentation about the history of colour and where early paint colour originates 

* Exploring how to make paint from earth pigments. Susannah will demonstrate and then in pairs all participants will have a go at doing this. Five different watercolour paints from local earths will be made. 

* Working with the natural watercolours we have created we will explore their individual hues, mix colours together and make a series of paintings exploring expressive, intuitive markmaking. There is no set intentional outcome but, if you would like to, you can choose to bring some landscape images for reference.

As part of our new series called the ‘Peer to Peer Sessions’ which enables some of our Club Members, who are Commercial Tutors and Artists, to show their skills, tips and tricks to other members.

 Materials to bring…

Susannah will provide all the earth pigments and paint making materials and equipment. If participants would like to bring a range of different watercolour papers and brushes and a water pot, that would be most helpful.
